In addition to the tripod I have to carry a tent the rz eos gear and some other important gear so bulk and weight are very important for me. For legs look at bogen manfrotto feisol giottos slik pro and velbon for some of the better budget choices. I've been looking around here and I see a lot of recommendations for carbon fiber based tripods. Why don you check out the ries and zone vi wooden tripods they absorb vibration much better. Vibration and second I tried a berlebach wood tripod it is much to heavy for me. Lack the stability of tripods but they are lighter easier to carry and set up and work well on any kind of terrain.
